Onabotulinum toxin, aka Botox, is a neurotoxic protein that prevents the release of the neurotransmitter - acetylcholine from axon endings at the neuromuscular junction, thereby causing muscle paralysis. Cosmetically this effect leads to muscle relaxation and decreases facial lines and wrinkles. This is one of the safest ways to give the upper face a refreshed look. The effects of Botox usually last 3-4 months.
