Balloon Sinuplasty
SOOTHE YOUR SINUSES
Overview
Balloon Sinuplasty is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat chronic sinusitis, a condition characterized by inflammation and infection of the sinuses. It is a relatively new technique that has gained popularity in recent years as an alternative to traditional sinus surgery.
What is Balloon Sinuplasty for?
Balloon sinus dilation can provide relief that lasts for those suffering from sinusitis symptoms. Millions of adults and children suffer from sinusitis – an inflammation or swelling of the tissue lining the sinuses that can prevent your sinuses from draining. Mucus and fluid build-up inside the sinuses and can lead to sinus infections, pain, and pressure.
Balloon sinus dilation offers a safe, convenient, and comfortable alternative for treating persistent sinusitis. After your physician numbs the tissue under local anesthesia, a small balloon is gently inserted into your sinus. By dilating, the balloon slowly reshapes the sinus pathway to restore drainage and normal function. After 3 to 5 seconds, the balloon is removed, allowing for fewer infections and clearer breathing.
Patient Recovery
It takes 5.0 days on average to return to local activity after traditional sinus surgery versus 1.7 days on average with in-office balloon sinus dilation. Many patients return to normal activity the day of the procedure.
